Maria joined Reuters America LLC (now Thomson Reuters (Markets) LLC) in January 1997.   Maria supports the Thomson Reuters finance and risk division and is based in the Legal Department in New York.  Maria has a wide variety of experience supporting all aspects of the business on a global and regional level including sales, commercial operations, strategic alliances, acquisitions and integrations., litigation, bankruptcy, investigations, business compliance and employment matters.  In her position Maria is closely aligned with the business in achieving its commercial objectives
In addition, for sixteen years Maria closely supported and worked with the management team for the finance and risk Latin America commercial operations (in 19 countries).   Maria managed relationships with local counsel and coordinated local legal advice with regard to corporate, commercial and employment matters.

Maria has experience doing business in emerging markets in Latin America from the time she began her career at the law firm of Rogers & Wells (now Clifford Chance) where she was an Associate for seven years.  Maria represented clients in Latin America and underwriters in connection with cross-border finance transactions.  Maria advised on U.S. securities laws and structured capital markets transactions in the region (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela as well as Jamaica and Puerto Rico).

Maria served as Co-Chair for the 2014 Legal Issues Concerning Hispanic and Latin American Media sponsored by the Media Law Resource Center in cooperation with the University of Miami School of Communication and School of Law.  Maria currently serves on the ALPFA Chapter Advisory Board.  Maria has been involved in the Junior Achievement Hispanic Initiative and participated in Junior Achievement programs including teaching in classrooms and job shadow events.  She was a founding member of the Thomson Reuters Latino Employee Network previously known as AHORA.

Maria obtained a J.D. from New York University School of Law and a B.A. in Politics and Economics from New York University.  Maria immigrated to New York as child with her family where she currently resides.  She enjoys travel and cultural activities.
