Teonna Icen
Assistant Vice President, Tax, Assurant
Teonna Icen joined Assurant in 2013 as Assistant Vice President of Tax. In this role, her key responsibilities include income tax compliance & reporting, tax accounting, as well as M & A integration planning. As a trusted business advisor, she manages the challenges around the changing tax landscape and anticipates its impact on the company’s tax risk, which include financial reporting and process controls. In addition, Teonna uses her diverse perspective when it comes to coaching and mentoring to lead the learning and development initiative for the tax department in order to advance the future generation of tax leaders.
Teonna began her career in 1998 with KPMG in Jacksonville Florida, where she worked with private companies and small business owners with tax planning and compliance. After relocating to Atlanta and continuing to work in the private company space, she joined Grant Thornton in Atlanta as a Senior Associate to focus on helping large public companies with their ASC 740 tax reporting, M & A due diligence, and federal and state tax planning before being promoted to Tax Director in 2011. In this role, her financial acumen and passion for collaboration allowed her to drive value for both internal and external stakeholders in various industries, resulting in several client service awards during her tenure.
Teonna graduated with distinction from Florida State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. In 1998, she earned her master’s degree in taxation from Florida State University. Her business affiliations include a membership with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She is a CPA in both Georgia and Florida.
Teonna lives in Atlanta with her husband and their cat, Frankie.
