Speaker: Dr. Carmen Fought
Dr. Carmen Fought is a Professor of Linguistics at Pitzer College, in Claremont, California. She is the author of Chicano English in Context and Language and Ethnicity, and the Editor of Sociolinguistic Variation: Critical Reflections.
She has done research on multiple California dialects, including Chicano English and “Valley Girl” English, and on social attitudes toward these varieties. Her current research project focuses on issues of gender and ethnicity in the media, including the representation of women’s speech in the Disney “Princess” movies.
Carmen has appeared as a linguistic consultant on a number of programs, including the Jim Lehrer News Hour, the Today show, the Dr. Phil Show, and HuffPost Live. She lives in Southern California with her husband and several badly behaved dogs.
