Gina Proia
Former Chief Communications Officer, Ally Financial
Gina Proia is Senior Vice President and Chief Communications Officer at Ally Financial, a leading financial services company, and in this role is responsible for all communications activities at the company, including developing strategic communications plans and managing media relations, internal communications, digital media, executive communications and corporate citizenship efforts.
She joined Ally in December 2006 to lead external and financial communications just as the company was beginning its journey as a standalone entity following 90 years as a subsidiary of General Motors. In June 2009, in the midst of the financial crisis, she was named head of all communications and corporate citizenship efforts. During this dynamic period for financial institutions, Gina created and executed key communications plans to support a multi-year strategic transformation of the company, several divestitures, an enterprise-wide rebranding and Ally’s initial public offering.
Gina also leads the company’s philanthropy and citizenship efforts which include a financial literacy program, employee volunteerism and giving programs, and strategic corporate grant relationships. Under her leadership and vision, these activities underwent a significant strategic shift to focus on driving meaningful community impact and prioritizing volunteerism and employee engagement.
Prior to joining Ally, Gina held various positions at General Motors in the areas of financial communications, marketing communications and product publicity. She began her career at a documentary production company in Washington, D.C., which focused on advocating for women’s and children’s issues.
She is a member of the Arthur W. Page Society and was named to PR Week’s 40 Under 40. In 2015, she received the Aiming High Award from Legal Momentum, the Women’s Legal Defense and Education Fund. Gina also serves on the board of the Jump$tart Coalition, which advances financial literacy for young people. She lives in Larchmont, NY with her husband and six year-old son.
